Dear Maplers,
Following the recent update, we have closely reviewed the feedback shared by many of you. Among the topics discussed, the issues we took most deeply to heart were those concerning growth and rewards.
MapleStory N aims to be a game where those who rise to more difficult challenges are able to enjoy a greater experience. This also means that, regardless of your stage of progression, the next challenge and its corresponding rewards should be clearly visible. This is not merely a strictly linear system where rewards scale directly with your power; rather, it is something that should be felt naturally within the game's overall ecosystem.
However, through the diverse feedback you have shared, we keenly feel that this experience is currently not being fully delivered. We admit that we viewed the balance of growth and rewards with a degree of complacency, and failed to examine it with the care it deserved. We offer our deepest apologies.
Moving forward, we intend to focus heavily on the following three key areas.
1. Enhancing Distinction in Challenging Content
We will strengthen the distinction between the areas that Maplers can challenge based on their stage of progression.
Looking back, we recognize that the recently added boss, Will, failed to adequately accommodate the wide range of progression levels among Maplers. Will was positioned as a new milestone challenge, but we also had to carefully consider the difficulty progression flow for upcoming bosses—such as the Black Mage, Gloom, Darknell, and Verus Hilla—yet to be introduced. With this in mind, we adjusted Will's difficulty out of concern that setting it too high could lead to difficulty inflation for subsequent bosses.
To address this, we plan to release an upcoming boss earlier than originally scheduled. This new boss will serve as a challenge tailored for Maplers who have achieved top-tier growth, and will be added as a new difficulty level to one of the existing bosses, offering appropriate distinction and rewards. We are preparing this boss to be available in the August 20 update.
We believe that strengthening this distinction will make the milestones that all currently progressing Maplers will one day reach even more valuable. Furthermore, we will review future boss update plans from this same perspective to ensure that appropriate challenges and rewards are provided across various stages of progression.
2. Expanding Rewards Based on Achievement
We will continue to enhance rewards and benefits based on achievement across various areas.
In addition to NESO and existing equipment, we plan to review and prepare new elements such as Boss Souls and Androids. Furthermore, we are committed to steadily adding various rewards—including prestige elements to honor your dedication and showcase your accomplishments—seamlessly integrated throughout the overall system in a way unique to MapleStory N.
We also plan to reflect these aspects in the Guild and Style systems currently scheduled for a revamp in the second half of the year.
Through these expansions, we will shape the game so that Maplers can experience appropriate rewards in a wider variety of forms across various stages of progression.
3. Preserving the Value of Your Efforts
We will dedicate more effort to preserving the value of rewards.
This applies to both what all Maplers currently hold and what you will acquire through future challenges.
Easing the entry barrier for progressing players and preserving the value of achievements already made—in an MMORPG, these two are inseparable values where one cannot be sacrificed for the other, and we must constantly strive to embrace and carry them both in harmony.
Moving forward, we will approach this balance with greater care. Especially when distributing progression materials such as Power Crystals that can affect the value of currency or items, we will further distinguish between areas where entry barriers should be eased and those where value must be protected, which will include measures such as adjusting quantities or limiting eligible targets. Through this approach, we will ensure that the value of what Maplers have earned through their hard work does not change too abruptly or unpredictably.
As a final note, we are currently preparing the Inter-World Reward System Integration to allow Maplers to compete and grow in a fairer environment. Through this, we aim to resolve the disadvantage where players in different worlds received disproportionately lower rewards due to differing levels of competition despite achieving the exact same accomplishments. We are expediting this integration as much as possible; however, due to its structural complexity, October or November is the absolute earliest we can deliver it.
Some of the plans discussed above have concrete timelines, while others are currently only in the direction-setting phase. While we will fast-track the issues we believe must be resolved first, changes that affect the game's core structure will require more careful deliberation. For plans without specified timelines, we will be sure to share more details through separate announcements as soon as progress is made.
We will carefully deliberate on structural changes while taking swift action where possible, and strive to make MapleStory N a game that constantly evolves alongside all of our progressing Maplers.
Thank you for holding us accountable, and we humbly accept your candid and uncompromising feedback.
Sincerely,
MapleStory N Team
